We splurged a little on First Class seats and are comfortably seated in two-across leather seats on OEBB Train 163 bound for Vienna. We didn't realize until after we boarded that the deal includes free WiFi.
We left Innsbruck about five minutes late but the train has hit speeds as fast as 217 kilometers per hour as we zipped through two long tunnels. The scenery continues to be breathtaking and later one we'll order a couple of Frankfurters mit Senf and a beer to go with it. The prices are reasonable and employees take the order and bring the food directly to our seats.
The next stop is Salzburg around 2:00 p.m. (it's 12:50 p.m. local time) and we're scheduled to arrive in Vienna at 4:24 p.m.
Yes, the ride is better than that of Amtrak.

We're looking forward to some basic Vienna sightseeing (retracing our steps from several years ago), opera in Bratislava, and getting acquainted with Croatia and Slovenia.
