Who says that LHR is one of the world's worst major airports to traverse? Well, we'll admit to saying that along with many other air passengers but we've gotten a refreshingly different perspective this morning.
Arriving 15 minutes early after a great IAD-LHR flight staffed by lovely British flight attendants, we used the passes issued on board to F and C passengers to access the Fast Track Line. Truth be told, H.M. Immigration inspectors weren't busy at all and we proceeded through quickly after a friendly chat with the official.
We'd heard rumors about the Star Alliance Arrivals Lounge and found a lift up to the second floor (what we'd call the third floor) not too far from the exit from Customs into the terminal. Yes, our C boarding passes allow us admittance, said the friendly man at the counter, and here we sit enjoying cappuccinos and free Internet in a nearly deserted lounge after long and thoroughly refreshing showers.
At some point we'll wend our way to the LHR Hilton, but it's only about 10:50 a.m. local time (2:50 a.m. at home) so this is a fine spot to hang out, rather than wondering if our Hilton room can be ready this early.
Yes, it's a nice start to the day and to our trip.

Kathy and Brian
Two retired educators alternating joyfully between seeing the world and enjoying our eight grandchildren (in order of birth), Jake, Avery, Taegan, Lily, Peyton, Riley, Blane, and Jace.
Kathy and Brian met in the clarinet section of the University of California (Santa Barbara) Symphony Orchestra several decades ago.
Brian's Western Canadian roots and Kathy's Colorado ties resulted in their making beautiful music together along with producing a cross-border crop of descendants.
Kathy spent a year studying in Vienna at the Institute for European Studies and the University of Vienna.
Brian started the school band program in Hope, British Columbia, and later became the high school's vice-principal for 6 years and subsequently principal for 15 years before retiring in 2001.
Kathy, in between raising our three children, taught kindergarten and first grade, middle school, and high school - mathematics, computer studies, ESL, and her first love, band, before retiring in 2001.
We enjoy sharing our travel experiences and providing the odd travel tip to friends, relatives, and visitors.
